Regional Barista of the Week

Meet Lismore's Barista Northern Star

Amber Rose Wheatley from Bluey's Cafe.

Amber is one of our passionate Regional town's Baristas who sees her role as a career not just a job to earn money.

Since learning espresso coffee skills from other Baristas in the previous Taste and now Blueys Cafes, she has fallen in love with Espresso Coffee Preparation and the Coffee Art she can make. Amber said her Barista role just came naturally to her rather than her original position as a kitchen trainee.

Amber prides herself as a 'Professional Barista' in our hospitality industry and is very conscious of maintaining consistency and quality coffee standards for her customers.

I asked Amber what are the most popular coffees she makes each day. She responded, "Cappuccinos and Flat Whites for sure". The least ordered styles were the Vienna coffee (black coffee with piped cream) or the Bullet proof coffee. Even I had to ask what the later coffee was ! Amber simply responded back, " it is a long black with butter".

"Oh of course", I said !!!! Thank you Amber I just learnt from you today.

Despite Amber's great industry experience, she is still very keen to attend our Basic Barista training in Lismore next month. As she indicated, she does not know what she doesn't know. This training also will help formalise her Barista career.

I asked if she could share a funny story with us about being a barista. Amber then went on to say, whilst on holidaying with her family awhile ago, she wanted to show off her new Barista skills. They pulled into a 24 hour stop, where she asked if she could make her own coffee to the attendant. After receiving permission, she dosed out her ground coffee in a group handle and tried to extract her shot. Unfortunately things did not go to plan, and her coffee went everywhere ! Her family roared with laughter and Amber was left full of embarrassment !

Of course Amber's Barista skills are well advanced now.

Thank you Amber for sharing your current role and story.

A tag out from Amber's Story is:

Anyone can nearly make an espresso coffee after been shown once how to use the coffee equipment.

BUT not everyone can make an espresso coffee that people will come for kilometres and kilometres to get one!

There is much more to learn in making quality Espresso Coffees than you think.

LISMORE YOU ARE NEXT!

BASIC BARISTA SHORT COURSE HAPPENING IN OCTOBER.

WE WILL ADVISE SOON.
